We video test the 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage - “an ideal city commuter which is absolutely effortless to slip into even the tightest of parking spaces”.

As the city car segment gets ever-more competitive, Mitsubishi has seen fit to give its entrant in the segment - the Mirage - a refresh to keep it at the top of the game.

Mitsubishi offers the Mirage as a single high-specification model that boasts standard features like keyless entry, air conditioning, front fog lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, rear privacy glass, Bluetooth and a leather steering wheel with phone and audio controls, as well as a full compliment of safety acronyms and six airbags.

The most recent facelift saw the Mirage get a new nose with a prominent grille and extra chrome highlights, as well as a redesigned wing on the rear hatch.

One of the Mirage’s best attributes around town is its tiny turning circle - at just 9.2 metres, the Mirage is an ideal city commuter and is absolutely effortless to slip into even the tightest of parking spaces.

As well as the six airbags, the Mirage comes standard with traction and stability control, brake assist on the ABS breaking system, hill start assist and an emergency stop signal system. The Mirage also features two ISO-FIX child seat restraints on the rear seats.

Up the back the Mirage features an impressive amount of cargo space for such a small car, with235-litres available with the rear seats up and 599-litres with them folded down. Stack the load to the roof and you will fit 912-litres worth of cargo into the little car!

The Mirage is propelled by a 1.2-litre inline 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 58kW of power and 102Nm of torque. While this mightn’t sound like a lot, just remember the Mirage has a kerb weight of just 895kg, so the engine pulls it along just fine.

Hooked up to a continuously variable transmission, Mitsubishi claims the perky little engine uses just 4.9-litres of fuel on the combined cycle, emitting just 113g/km of carbon dioxide.
