On the Trail of better all Terrain tyres with Michelin’s LTX - Video Review

General

Michelin has just launched its latest All Terrain tyre, the LTX Trail, which brings together Michelin’s rally sport expertise to redefine a fuel saving All Terrain tyre.

In keeping with Michelin’s development ethos – the LTX Trail is a significant improvement over the LTX Force, an All-Terrain tyre which by the way, set something of a benchmark for the segment when it was the All-Terrain tyre of choice.

The LTX Trail has been designed to answer the compromises found in most All Terrain tyres which usually sacrifice on road highway performance for off-road versatility. The LTX shows a substantial improvement in highway performance, without sacrificing performance in off road conditions.

A study in the science of tyres, the LTX Trail incorporates multiple tyre technologies in its design. Features like: canvas reinforcing in the tyre carcass for strength and flexibility, sipes cut into the tread blocks for extraordinary grip levels, Duo harmony tread design to minimise unwanted road noise, improved compounds to offer reduced stopping distance in the wet and rubber with improved chipping resistance overall.

As with all Michelin total performance tyres, the LTX is built with improvement in its makeup.

Every Total Performance Michelin tyre must meet a group of characteristics which, with the development of the tyre, must either retain their excellence or show a marked improvement in the key areas of safety, fuel efficiency, grip, longevity and durability.

In the case of the LTX, all the above boxes have been ticked and the improvements independently measured and tested against leading competitors, with all the results publicly available.

As far as longevity is concerned for example, the LTX compound and tread block combinations lasts 41 percent better than its closest competitor in a test conducted by TUV Rheinland Thailand Ltd.

The LTX Trail then, is an SUV tyre designed in the southern hemisphere in response to our market conditions and Michelin has produced another winner of a tyre.
