Honda Celebrates 30 Years of the CR-V in New Zealand

News

Honda New Zealand is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Honda CR-V – a nameplate that has become synonymous with comfort, reliability, and innovation for Kiwi families since its arrival in the late 1990s.

Launched globally in 1995 as one of the world’s first “Comfortable Runabout Vehicles,” the CR-V pioneered a new era of urban SUVs – combining the practicality of an SUV with the refinement of a passenger car. Since then, it has become one of Honda’s most recognisable and best-selling models, with over 15 million units sold worldwide, including thousands to loyal New Zealand customers.

Since its debut, the CR-V has evolved through six generations, consistently advancing in design, safety, and environmental performance. The latest CR-V e:HEV Hybrid continues that legacy – offering powerful performance, exceptional efficiency, and Honda SENSING technology as standard across the range.

A trusted name for New Zealand families

Since its arrival in New Zealand, the CR-V has been a popular choice among Kiwi drivers for its spacious interior, dependability, and refined driving experience. It has earned its place as a go-to family SUV, balancing everyday practicality with weekend adventure.

Carolyn McMahon, Managing Director of Honda New Zealand, said the CR-V’s 30-year milestone is not just a celebration of the model’s global success, but also a testament to the strong relationship between Honda and New Zealand drivers.

“For 30 years, the CR-V has been a trusted companion for Kiwi families – from school runs to road trips. It represents Honda’s commitment to quality, safety, and innovation, and continues to evolve with the needs of our customers. We’re proud to celebrate this milestone and the loyal community of CR-V owners who have made it part of their lives,” said McMahon.

A future built on innovation

As Honda continues its journey toward an electrified future, the CR-V remains at the forefront of the brand’s SUV lineup – now offering advanced hybrid powertrains and intelligent safety technologies that redefine the modern driving experience.

To mark the 30th anniversary, some of the Honda New Zealand dealerships will host local celebrations, showcasing the CR-V’s rich heritage and evolution, alongside special activities for customers.
