We video test the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line.
For those who don’t know, the Tiguan is Volkswagen’s mid-sized SUV, and for the most part, it’s appealed to mum, dad, two kids and some bits and pieces, as the Monday to Friday shuttle and weekend go-for-a-drive mobile. Until now.
The Tiguan Allspace takes it up a notch or three – it’s still a great school-runner, but now, - being a genuine seven-seater - it can transport a family, some toys AND a couple of friends; a fantastic getaway and play vehicle able to get you to any grown-up playground you care to name, thanks to its 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
A mobile magician’s hat of motoring wizardry, the Tiguan Allspace does tricks like parking itself at the push of a button, transforms 700 litres into 1775 litres of boot space faster than you can say Abracadaba three times counter clockwise, opens doors with the wave of a foot and changes music with the wave of a hand. Forget spellcasting in Latin, Harry Potter; you just need to say Tiguan Allspace!
The tricks the Tiguan Allspace can do will impress passengers both young and old—even the surliest of teenagers – but it’s the ease of the 7-speed DSG transmission, the eye-catching heads up display (to keep your eyes up on the road) the 162kW of power and 350Nm of torque to give a 2500kg towing capacity, that will captivate the driver. All of these features combine to make the Tiguan Allspace look great on paper, but in real life, it’s even more attractive, with its sporty R-Line body styling and stunning 20-inch alloy wheels.
