We video test the 2019 Mitsubishi Triton 2WD GLX-R

Mitsubishi’s Triton has taken on almost legendary status for its evergreen and value for money appeal, and the 2019 model is adding to that reputation.

With a new look, significant improvements in handling and specification levels, the new Triton has already made massive gains for Mitsubishi sales and shows no signs of slowing down.

Available in a 14-strong range of configurations, the Mitsubishi Triton has a vehicle for all applications, which again, is part of its enduring appeal.

While the top of the line VRX 4WD is the hero of the hour, the GLX-R grade has proven to be the more popular option for the multi-vehicle or fleet user.

The GLX-R features a 7-inch touchscreen Smartphone Link display incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible audio systems with voice command and steering wheel remote controls.

With a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, the GLX-R comes with active traction control, seven airbags, reversing camera, Trailer Stability Assist, Smart brake and Smart Brake Assist. The safety of the automatic model is further enhanced with a 360° Multi Around View Monitor, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Mitigation. 

This particular example is the 2WD GLX-R model which is an extremely capable and easy to operate vehicle in open road or close city environments, while the extremely dependable 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel, with its 135kW of power and more critical 437Nm of torque, makes easy work of the occasional off-road excursion.

A new six-speed transmission – available in either manual or automatic – improves the driveability of the Triton and allows for impressive fuel economy sipping just of 7.7 litres per 100km and 8.4 litres per 100km respectively. 

With 18-inch alloys, 3000kg towing capacity, rear sports suspension for strength and coil sprung front for control, the GLX-R 2WD Triton demonstrates Mitsubishi’s commitment to the light commercial vehicle user.
