February will see the all-new Pajero Sport VRX start leaving dealership floors as Mitsubishi uses it as a platform to launch a premium package of advanced safety features, luxury and aggressive styling at a competitive price point.
Following on from the Triton and most recently, the ASX, the Pajero Sport takes on the Dynamic Shield exterior design, but the company calls this an ‘evolution’ of the same.
The vehicle’s high, flat bonnet creates a deeper, square-jawed front face with a powerful chrome design for an aggressive yet sophisticated appearance. Headlights continue sleekly from the front grille, with combination lamps at the bumper corners.
Stylish two-tone 18” alloys complement the robust design, while the rear of the vehicle features a new bumper and LED tail lamp design with spoiler as standard.
The interior gets a makeover too. The Pajero Sport has the distinction of being the only Mitsubishi to date, offering an all-new, easy-to-read, eight-inch colour LCD meter, with changeable display types according to preference as well as selected driving systems and audio and phone information.
And while Mitsubishi can cohesively design a cloth and leather combination, Pajero Sport goes all in with sport leather upholstery.
And as to technology, Pajero Sport is equipped with lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert systems, adding to an already comprehensive safety suite, while at the same time combining tech with connectivity.
A Smartphone app sends a notification to the driver who might leave the doors unlocked as they leave the vehicle and at the same time, offers a car finding function as well.
Pajero Sport is also equipped with a hands-free power tailgate allows users to open and close the tailgate via smartphone through the Mitsubishi remote control system.
The tailgate reservation system can be preset by smartphone, which enables the driver to open or close the tailgate automatically when he/she approaches or leaves the vehicle.
Under the bonnet is the tried and true 2.4 litre MIVEC engine mated to an eight-speed transmission and the proven Super Select 4WD II system for optimal traction both on and off road.
“We’re hugely excited to welcome the new Pajero Sport to New Zealand,” said MMNZ Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Reece Congdon. “The bold new look that has been so well-received on the immensely popular Triton has now been adopted on this stunning VRX model – and we’re sure it will be another big hit.
“Pajero Sport has always offered fantastic value in the large SUV segment, and this new model, launched at $58,990 with new levels of smart technology, will put it at the forefront of customers’ considerations. We believe it could well be the most impressive Mitsubishi to date.”
